What we keep. What we don’t.
StayCompare collects enough information to run shared trip boards, remember who did what, and keep the service working. This page explains the details without making you decode them.
Effective 30 July 2026 · staycompare.app
The short version
- The organizer signs in with Google. Friends can vote without an account.
- We store trip details, listing information, votes, names, and notes.
- A share link is unlisted, not secret. Anyone it reaches can open the trip.
- Planned host insights use combined, de-identified patterns—not raw group data.
What we collect
Organizers. Google gives us an account identifier, email address, and name when you sign in. We use them to keep your trips attached to you and contact you about the service. We do not ask for your contacts, calendar, Drive, or photos. Our use of Google information follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
People who vote. We store the display name you type, a random browser secret, and the votes or notes you leave. The group sees vote totals, not who voted for which stay. Notes are shown with your name to anyone holding the share link. The organizer can see participant names and activity counts, but not each person’s choices.
Trips. We store rental links, dates, party size, and the listing facts and prices fetched for that trip.
Service records. Cloudflare creates ordinary request logs. We may keep a one-way IP hash for up to 30 days to limit abuse, plus simple hourly counts that tell us whether opening, voting, and saving worked.
How we use it
We use this information to run and secure StayCompare, fetch listing details, keep the right trips and contributions connected to the right browser, and understand whether the product is working.
Adding a listing sends its address, dates, and party size to Airbnb so we can fetch the relevant facts and price. Listing photos load from Airbnb’s image servers, so Airbnb receives the usual browser request, including your IP address and browser details.
We do not use advertising networks, tracking pixels, third-party analytics, or session recording.
Planned host insights—not live today
StayCompare plans to make money by selling Airbnb hosts combined insights about how travelers compare listings. That may include patterns in votes, listing features, price tradeoffs, and themes from group feedback.
We will only publish a pattern after enough groups are included to keep any single group from standing out. Hosts will not receive names, email addresses, Google account information, trip dates, share links, raw notes, individual vote histories, or anything intended to let them identify or contact a traveler.
We do not sell personal information to advertisers or data brokers. The planned host product is a sale of aggregate, de-identified insights—not access to people or trip boards. We will update this policy and provide a clear in-product notice before this use begins.
Cookies and share links
Organizer cookies keep you signed in for up to 30 days. Guest cookies are created when you first vote or leave a note and can last up to 12 months. Both contain random secrets, not names or email addresses. We do not set advertising cookies.
Clearing cookies or changing browsers can stop us from recognizing earlier guest activity. A share link can also be forwarded: anyone holding it can view the trip, vote, and read notes. The organizer can rotate the link to disable the old one.
Who else handles data
Google handles organizer sign-in. Cloudflare hosts the site and database and may process data in more than one country. Airbnb receives listing requests and serves listing photos. We do not give these providers permission to use StayCompare data for advertising.
Keeping, copying, and deleting data
Trips, listings, votes, and notes stay until the organizer deletes the trip or asks us to. Organizer account records stay while the account exists.
To request a copy or deletion, email hello@staycompare.app. Guests can usually remove their own vote or note from the same browser. If that browser no longer recognizes you, send us the share link and display name; we may ask the organizer to confirm before removing more than one contribution.
Children and changes
StayCompare is not designed for children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
When this policy changes, we will update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use information, we will explain it here before the new use begins.
